Rissen: Schöns Park

Schöns Park is the main local green reference point in this part of Rissen. The open or wooded landscape changes the scale of the surrounding streets and gives nearby housing a stronger connection to nature than the broader district description suggests. Paths, mature vegetation and the contrast between built-up blocks and open space are therefore central to the identity of this micro-area. To the north, the Klövensteen forest and adjacent nature areas provide extensive walking, cycling and equestrian routes. To the south, the Falkensteiner Ufer, Wittenbergen beach and lighthouse open broad views across the tidal Elbe, with wooded slopes and sandy shore uncommon elsewhere in the city. Rissen’s special quality is the exceptional closeness of three environments: a functioning suburban centre, quiet garden neighbourhoods and large natural landscapes of forest, heath and river beach coexist within walking and cycling distance.
