Kleiner Grasbrook: Hansahöft
City part: Hamburg-Mitte | State: 2025
The subarea known as Hansahöft gives this part of Kleiner Grasbrook a more precise local identity. It is best understood through the immediate combination of housing, everyday routes, nearby open space and the way local streets connect with the rest of the district. Treating Hansahöft separately helps expose small-scale differences in urban form and daily life that are easily lost when Kleiner Grasbrook is described only as one large area. The historic sheds and quays around Hansahafen preserve an important layer of port history; the German Port Museum’s sites and the listed 50er Schuppen make cranes, cargo handling and maritime labour accessible beyond current operations. At the same time, the planned Grasbrook development around Moldauhafen is intended to introduce housing, workplaces, parks and a new rapid-transit connection while retaining active harbour functions elsewhere. This tension defines the district.
