Heimfeld: Kuhtrift
City part: Harburg | State: 2025
The subarea known as Kuhtrift gives this part of Heimfeld a more precise local identity. It is best understood through the immediate combination of housing, everyday routes, nearby open space and the way local streets connect with the rest of the district. Treating Kuhtrift separately helps expose small-scale differences in urban form and daily life that are easily lost when Heimfeld is described only as one large area. Toward central Harburg, local shops, cafés, hospitals and the S-Bahn create an urban everyday environment, while railway lines and port-related industry remain visible at the northern edge. West of the built-up area, Meyers Park opens into more than thirty hectares of woodland and meadows; paths continue through the Haake toward the Harburg hills. Heimfeld’s special character lies in this unusually close connection between university life, Harburg’s industrial history and extensive woodland, all within a short journey of the district centre and Hamburg’s inner city.
