Eißendorf: Bredensand
City part: Harburg | State: 2025
The subarea known as Bredensand gives this part of Eißendorf a more precise local identity. It is best understood through the immediate combination of housing, everyday routes, nearby open space and the way local streets connect with the rest of the district. Treating Bredensand separately helps expose small-scale differences in urban form and daily life that are easily lost when Eißendorf is described only as one large area. Eißendorfer Straße follows a ridge between valleys and forms the main residential and service axis, while the historic village core lies lower in the green Göhlbach valley. The Haake forest and adjoining Harburg hill landscape offer extensive walking, cycling and nature routes directly from residential streets. Eißendorf’s defining quality is the transition between city and wooded hills: within a short distance, dense southern-Hamburg housing gives way to valleys, forest edges and broad views, creating a spacious and strongly green residential environment.
