Borgfelde: Oben Borgfelde
City part: Hamburg-Mitte | State: 2025
The subarea known as Oben Borgfelde gives this part of Borgfelde a more precise local identity. It is best understood through the immediate combination of housing, everyday routes, nearby open space and the way local streets connect with the rest of the district. Treating Oben Borgfelde separately helps expose small-scale differences in urban form and daily life that are easily lost when Borgfelde is described only as one large area. Borgfelder Straße, once part of the historic road toward Berlin, separates the higher Geest slope of Oben Borgfelde from the lower ground toward the Mittelkanal. Much of the older housing was destroyed during the Second World War, so post-war apartment blocks and rebuilt streets dominate, although individual villas, churches and surviving historic buildings still provide points of continuity. S-Bahn and bus links put the main station and city centre within minutes, while canals and small green spaces offer limited but useful relief.
