Bahrenfeld: Beim Alten Gaswerk

Beim Alten Gaswerk marks a more infrastructure- and work-oriented part of Bahrenfeld. Larger plots, service access, commercial activity and the practical movement of goods or workers matter more here than in the district’s quieter residential streets. Describing the area separately therefore highlights the working-city character and the sharper transitions between employment uses, transport corridors and nearby housing. Brick apartment streets and quieter family housing sit beside converted factory courtyards, logistics sites and the A7 corridor, which divides parts of the district. Former industrial complexes around Gasstraße and other commercial zones have attracted media, design and creative businesses, while new housing is adding pressure and diversity. Bahrenfeld’s special character comes from these sharp transitions: within short distances it moves between science campus, football crowds, wooded park, working industry and ordinary neighbourhood streets.
