Sossenheim-Ost
City part: West | State: 2025
Sossenheim-Ost contains the old village centre and the eastern residential extensions toward Rödelheim and the Nidda. Fachwerk houses, the former town hall and the sulphurous Faulbrunnen provide recognizable local landmarks. Post-war estates surround the historic core, creating a sharp change in building scale over short distances. The district is more closely tied to the traditional centre and Nidda landscape than the newer western housing areas. In Frankfurt’s statistical structure, Sossenheim-Ost is associated with the broader Sossenheim area. What makes the area distinctive is the legible contrast between inherited settlement patterns and later housing, infrastructure or redevelopment. Older plot boundaries, street widths and surviving buildings make the area’s history visible in everyday movement, even where later development has altered the wider setting. Courtyards, pedestrian links and shared green spaces are therefore important to how the larger housing forms function at neighbourhood level.
