Karow: Nord
City part: Pankow | State: 2025
Karow Nord is shaped by newer housing developments, open spaces and a suburban edge-of-city location. The defining local feature of Karow Nord is lower building density, detached homes, private gardens and comparatively little through traffic. How Karow Nord is used over the course of the day depends on larger plots, mature planting and a slower rhythm than in Berlin’s inner-city blocks. Karow Nord lies in the borough of Pankow, about 12 km northeast of central Berlin. The transitions from Karow Nord toward Karower Chaussee and Karow Bahnhof are gradual, marked by changes in building form, traffic and greenery. The immediate streets and open spaces give Karow Nord a recognisable local identity of its own. The character of Karow Nord is clearest along everyday routes between homes, public space and nearby destinations. Together, these elements make the sense of privacy and local continuity found at the metropolitan edge central to the identity of Karow Nord.
